Natural ageing causes the skin to become dry, thinner, and less elastic. Other factors that contribute to wrinkles are long term sun damage and smoking. As the sun damages your skin, it looses its natual elasticity, and minor wrinkles start to develop. This can unfortunately cause you to look stern, tired or angry even when the underlying muscles are still. So what can be done? anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, dermabrasion, chemical peels and light and laser resurfacing.
What is anti-wrinkle injections ?
Botulinum toxin, commonly known as Botox is a protein produced by the the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It relaxes muscles by temporarily blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle contraction that causes lines and wrinkles. Commercially there is Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin.
Botox use is now wide spread, and is used commonly to reduce muscle contraction that causes wrinkles and muscle tension in TMD.
It has been used to help :
• Frown lines
• Crow’s feet lines around eyes
• Forehead lines
• Eye brow lifting
Pre treatment :
A complete medical history and examination is needed prior to treatment. Disinfectant wipe is applied to injection site prior to injection.
The product will be injected precisely into the treatment areas. The result will gradually appear and final result will be achieved 2 weeks after the treatment
Avoid touching, rubbing or applying make up on the treated areas for 6 hours. The procedure takes around 10 minutes to complete. Post injection care instructions will be given to you on the day of treatment.
Injection related side effects are minimal and temporary such as redness, swelling and bruising. Spreading of the Botox to the muscles nearby can be easily prevented by avoiding rubbing or massaging the treated areas for 6 hours.
If too much botox is given to a muscle, it can result in droopy eye or frozen face. To ensure this does not happen, we use small amounts first, evaluate 2 week after, and inject more if needed.
